Girish Gokhale

Senior Vice President Legal and Secretarial

Lafarge

Mr. Girish Gokhale has recently been appointed as Senior Vice President, Legal and Secretarial for Lafarge India Private Limited.

He has gained extensive legal experience over three decades at some of India’s leading companies including the last nine years as Chief Legal Advisor for Larsen & Toubro Limited where he was responsible for significant cases such as:

•    Successfully defending the acquisition of land for various projects before the Gujarat High Court, Karnataka High Court;
•    Advising, drafting, finalizing the scheme of de-merger of Cement Division of Larsen & Toubro Limited and negotiating for acquisition of various companies on behalf of L&T in UK, USA, Malaysia, Australia, Indonesia, etc.

Prior to that Mr. Gokhale worked as Legal manager and then Senior Legal Manager of TATA Industries Limited. During this period, the work involved co-ordinating various activities of the Group Companies and the work of newly promoted Joint Ventures. He was heavily involved in advising Corporate Management on strategic issues with Government / Industrial / environmental policies and guidelines for foreign collaborations and joint ventures including the following transactions:

Information Technology Park Limited, Bangalore:
A Joint Venture between TATA Group, Singapore consortium and Government of Karnataka was set up to establish high-tech technology park.

Bangalore International Airport:
A consortium of TATA, Raython and Singapore consortium (including Changi Airport Corporation) was awarded contract for construction of international airport of world standard. The said consortium subsequently withdrew from the project.

Mr. Gokhale originally started his legal career at the Mulla and Mulla and Craige Blunt and Caroe. Gaining considerable experience with various partners. Litigation work required working with various Counsels such as Mr. F.S. Nariman, Mr. Ashok Desai, Mr. K.Parasaran, Mr. K.K.Venugopal, Mr. V.R. Manohar, Mr. Arun Jaitley, Mr. G.E.Vahanvati, Mr. Altaf Ahmed amongst others.
